Harmonious Interior Design: The 5 Golden Rules
We love green, red, purple, or black… We all want to decorate our living room in our favorite colors. Social media and magazines also offer us a multitude of trendy inspiration sources.
So one day, we rush to our favorite DIY store and bravely choose OUR colors!
But be careful, it doesn't always work!
A bad color combination, an awkward contrast, and it's total confusion: hours and money lost for a disappointing result.
My New Design helps you avoid disasters with 5 key decorating principles.
1 – No more than 2 colors on your walls
Do you love Italy and want to feel that ambiance in your living space? Ochre harmonies: OK, the 3 colors of the Italian flag: NO.
Indeed, 3 different colors (or more) on your walls and you will lose all coherence, plunging the room into an imprecise, even unpleasant, atmosphere.
Instead, favor a blend of 2 harmonious colors: For example, a cream white and a slightly pronounced taupe to create a warm atmosphere, or a bright white and a "Baltic" blue to evoke a seaside spirit.
Opt for monochrome shades, playing with tones: A light color combined with the same color in a darker shade.
The furniture will add depth to this harmonious base. We offer a catalog of designer armchairs with a multitude of colors and materials that will perfectly match your decor choices.
2 – The copy-paste trap
A stroll through a furniture or DIY store, and you're captivated by the display of living room N° 4 and recessed spotlights reference 1432.
The mistake is to copy-paste this trendy and attractive decor, which will be obsolete the following year, forgetting your own personality. You risk ending up with a more or less faithful copy of a universe that does not belong to you, lifeless, and that you will find in many other people's homes.
Trust yourself! Create your own universe, obviously respecting certain rules, but drawing inspiration only from yourself.
The key: Be at home.
Our DESIGN relaxation armchairs with footrests will bring that unique touch to your decoration.
3 – Mixing styles
Mixing styles, "Mix and Match," has been trending for several years. But beware, it must be done with taste.
Many materials and colors blend perfectly, the main thing being to maintain a certain balance, so as not to fall into kitsch.
Try to keep some coherence in the style you want to give your interior.
To avoid feeling like you're in a flea market, define a guiding principle for a particular decor style — this will serve as your common thread moving forward, and you will then achieve a harmonious result.
4 – Too many objects
Sentimental, nostalgic… You still keep that pouf bought in 1997 in a corner of your living room, having followed you through all your moves.
You no longer even notice its presence, like a host of other objects, trophies, and trinkets scattered here and there in your living room.
This display, in addition to not making cleaning easier, clutters the view and space and does not provide any coherent decoration to your home.
So, if you are attached to some of these items, only keep those that are most in harmony with your decor, and store the rest in the attic; nothing will prevent you from finding them later.
Just like with your wardrobe, learn to part with furniture or objects you no longer look at, or that you don't use, to gain space, light, and refresh your interior.
5 – The Fakes
Brick-effect wallpaper, peeling PVC cement tiles, resin stone walls adorned with silicone joints…
A trompe-l'oeil that doesn't trick the eye guarantees a failed decor.
Unless you stumble upon the perfect illusion, which is quite rare, prefer simple coverings, quality paints, or real materials.
At My New Design, we adopt this philosophy: real leather, real wood, oak, quality fabrics, for all our relaxation armchairs.
In conclusion, to avoid decorating blunders, know how to harmonize, don't overload, don't make your interior a showroom, and bring your personality into it. Make your interior lively and bright, and be inspired without being a slave to trends.
